After Blue, the duo Cerulean Veins brings their latest album to the fans. Black, like its predecessor, is a true masterpiece and already one of the best albums of 2023.

Some time has passed since the last album of the two musicians and married couple Dustin Frelich and Amanda Toombs but we wondered if we could still expect new releases from San Diego. With the announcement of the music video premiere of “Love Won’t Save Us Now”, expectations rose immeasurably and after watching the video, we knew every single, tough second of waiting had been worth it. Every hair on our arms stood straight up and with those massive goosebumps and wide smiles, we knew this album just had to be a masterpiece.

Infinite Love is the first song from Black and from the first few seconds they grab you and take you on a fantastic journey of dark, dreamy music. Music that revolves around life, love and death and is interwoven and palpable in every song. Light on its feet but just as powerful as a dance. A statement that also comes from Ceruelean Veins itself. The dance with the black swan.
The songs live on Dustin’s unmistakable, incomparable voice, which we personally count as one of the best voices in the post-punk scene. His voice burns itself into the memory and ensures that no matter what the situation, the refrains of each song spontaneously move through the brain. A bittersweet mixture of happiness and sadness that is paired with just the right amount of passion.
Equally fantastic is the musical component, which likewise conveys the moods of each song and blends beautifully with the vocals. No contrasting, competing buildup, but a harmonious interplay. So harmonious that everything together is more than their hums. Magic.

And it is this magic that makes it hard to describe why the album is such a masterpiece, perhaps one shouldn’t even try to analyze everything down to the smallest detail, because magic must be marveled at and experienced. When each song makes a pleasant shiver crawl over the body. The songs let the everyday life fade out and you dream away. Looking to the stars and simply experiencing the positive in the world. Amanda and Dustin have created something that only a few musicians manage in their career. An album that never gets boring, even if you can sing along by heart after a short time. It becomes a part of the listener, like a good friend that accompanies you through every situation. We love it. Thank you!

Nach Blue bringt das Duo Cerulean Veins ihr neustes Album zu den Fans. Black ist wie sein Vorgänger ein wahres Meisterstück und schon jetzt eines der besten Alben 2023.

Etwas Zeit ist seit dem letzten Album der beiden Musiker und Ehepaares Dustin Frelich und Amanda Toombs doch schon vergangen und wir fragten uns schon ob wir noch mit neuen Releases aus San Diego rechnen konnten. Mit der Ankündigung der Musikvideo Premiere von “Love Won´t Save Us Now” stiegen die Erwartungen ins unermessliche und nachdem wir das Video gesehen hatten, wussten wir, jede einzelne, zähe Sekunde des Wartens hatte sich gelohnt. Jedes Haar auf unseren Armen stand aufrecht und mit dieser gewaltigen Gänsehaut und einem breiten Lächeln wussten wir, dieses Album muss einfach ein Meisterwerk werden.

Infinite Love ist der erste Song von Black und schon mit den ersten Sekunden packen dich die beiden Musiker und nehmen dich mit auf eine fantastische Reise aus dunkler, träumerischer Musik. Musik, die sich um das Leben, die Liebe und den Tod dreht und in jedem Song verwebt und spürbar ist. Leichtfüßig aber ebenso gewaltig wie ein Tanz. Eine Aussage, die auch von Ceruelean Veins selber kommt. Der Tanz mit dem schwarzen Schwan.
Die Songs leben von Dustins unverkennbaren, unvergleichlichen Stimme, die wir persönlich zu einen der besten Stimmen der Post-Punk Szene zählen. Seine Stimme brennt sich im Gedächtnis fest und sorgt dafür, das egal zu welcher Situation die Refrains eines jeden Songs spontan durchs Gehirn ziehen. Eine bittersüße Mischung aus Fröhlichkeit und Traurigkeit die mit der genau richtigen Portion Leidenschaft gepaart ist.
Ebenso fantastisch ist die musikalische Komponente, die ebenso die Stimmungen eines jeden Songs transportiert und sich wunderbar mit den Vocals verbindet. Kein kontrastvoller, konkurrierender Aufbau, sondern ein harmonisches Zusammenspiel. So harmonisch, das alles zusammen mehr ist als ihre Summen. Magie.

Und eben diese Magie, macht es schwer zu beschreiben warum das Album solch ein Meisterwerk ist, vielleicht sollte man es auch gar nicht versuchen alles bis ins kleinste Detail zu analysieren, denn Magie muss bestaunt und erlebt werden. Wenn jeder Song einen wohligen Schauer über den Körper krabbeln lässt. Die Songs den Alltag ausblenden lassen und man vor sich hinträumt. Zu den Sternen blickt und einfach das positive in der Welt erlebt. Amanda und Dustin haben etwas erschaffen, das nur die wenigsten Musiker in ihrer Karriere schaffen. Ein Album das nie langweilig wird, auch wenn man es nach kurzer Zeit auswendig mitsingen kann. Es wird ein Teil des Hörers, wie ein guter Freund, der einen durch jede Situation begleitet.
