With Darker Days at the latest, Swiss musician and multi-talent Carlo Onda had us under his spell. With his new longplayer, he manages to captivate us again with ease. With ten tracks, the musician shows why today’s music can still have the special flair of the 80s. Ensoniq ESQ-1 seems to be the magic word as the musician writes about his own work. A plug-in that manages the balancing act between the modern and the past, but let’s be honest, what good is equipment and plug-ins if the music is not in your blood? Carlo is minimalist in his music, but he infuses this minimalism with perfection and complexity. Take “Photographs” or “Your Heart So Tender” for example, which sound exceptionally warm and still hit the listener crystal clear. “Trapped In A Clockwork” which lets powerful tones wander over the skin and raises all the fine hairs to goosebumps. Finally, “Short Scale Temper” unites everything and turns out to be a very persistent earworm for us.
Souleater is an album that never lets boredom arise and is a pleasure to recall, be it to improve your mood by dancing or to listen to its complexity while relaxing. Wonderful piece of music!

Spätestens mit Darker Days hatte uns der Schweizer Musiker und Multitalent Carlo Onda in seinen Bann gezogen. Mit seinem neuen Longplayer schafft er es mit Leichtigkeit uns erneut zu fesseln. Gleich mit zehn Tracks zeigt der Musiker warum Musik von Heute immer noch das besondere Flair der 80s haben kann. Ensoniq ESQ-1 scheint das Zauberwort zu heißen wie der Musiker zu seiner eigenen Arbeit schreibt. Ein Plug-In das den Spagat zwischen Moderne und Vergangenheit bewerkstelligt, aber sind wir ehrlich, was nützen Equipment und Plug-Ins wenn einem die Musik nicht im Blut liegt. Carlo arbeitet zwar minimalistisch was seine Musik anbelangt, dennoch versieht er diesen Minimalismus mit Perfektion und Vielschichtigkeit. Nehmen wir zum Beispiel “Photographs” oder “Your Heart So Tender” die außergewöhnlich warm klingen und trotzdem Glasklar auf den Hörer treffen. “Trapped In A Clockwork” das wuchtige Töne über die Haut wandern lässt und alle feinen Härchen zur Gänsehaut aufrichtet. “Short Scale Temper” vereint dann schließlich alles und entpuppt sich für uns als ganz hartnäckiger Ohrwurm.
Souleater ist ein Album das zu keiner Zeit Langeweile aufkommen lässt und sich gerne wieder in Erinnerung ruft, sei es um die Laune tanzend aufzubessern oder seiner Komplexität beim Entspannen zu lauschen. Wunderbares Stück Musik!
