TV Cult live at Die Trompete Bochum

Cologne band TV CULT opened for Home Front at Bochum’s Die Trompete and surprised more than just us with their special sound.

It was autumn time. A lot of wind, penetrating rain and there’s no need to mention that in this weather the highways in the Ruhr area are more like a snail racetrack than expressways. The search for a parking space in Bochum’s Bermuda Triangle wasn’t any easier either. Despite all the adversities, we reached Die Trompete before the doors opened and used the time to chat with the guests. As surprisingly empty as it was at the beginning, it became full after a while. We had hoped for a few guests, but the fact that people crowded in and brought so much good humor to the location despite the weather surprised us positively.

It didn’t take long for the Cologne quartet TV CULT to take to the stage and set exactly the opposite in motion with their first song “Party’s Over”. The audience seemed a little shy at first, but after a few bars we could already see enthusiastic faces. The unique sound was well received by the guests. A crunchy bass that really put the pressure on, paired with powerful drums and buzzing, cool riffs. On top of that, singer Marco’s voice runs through the songs in the best hardcore manner. Post-hardcore or hardcore post-punk, as you like, but it’s easy to agree that the sound is really cool and different from the dark uniformity. Lots of punk and the lack of synths really didn’t bother anyone, on the contrary, it made the sound even more “raw” and catchy.

With the second song “White Riot”, the audience has finally thawed out and no longer shies away when singer Marco cavorts among the guests. He seems to be aware of his presence and voice and puts as much effort into the whole set as his band members. With ten songs, the quartet impressively demonstrated how different styles – and there are plenty of them – can be wonderfully mixed and how the newly created sound can also score points with guests. It seemed a little short, but that’s perfectly normal when there’s never a dull moment. We will definitely be keeping an eye on the band and are already looking forward to the Cologne band’s new releases. Cue Colony, the Cologne band’s debut album, which is expected to be available on 24.11.2023 and even comes in a chic green vinyl. Until then, we hope to see the band on stage again. We really enjoyed it.

Als Vorgruppe zu Home Front war die Kölner Band TV CULT zu Gast in Bochums Die Trompete und überraschte nicht nur uns mit ihrem speziellen Sound.

Es war so richtig Herbst. Eine Menge Wind, durchdringender Regen und das bei dem Wetter die Autobahnen im Ruhrgebiet eher Schleichwegen gleichen als Schnellwegen braucht man eigentlich nicht zu erwähnen. Auch die Parkplatzsuche im Bochumer Bermuda Dreieck gestaltete sich dadurch nicht einfacher. Trotz aller Widrigkeiten erreichten wir die Trompete schon vor Einlass und nutzten die Zeit um mit den Gästen ins Gespräch zu kommen. So erstaunlich leer es am Anfang war, so voll wurde es nach einiger Zeit. Wir hatten auf einige Gäste gehofft, doch das man sich dicht drängt und trotz Wetter so viel gute Laune in die Location mitbrachte erstaunte uns doch positiv.

Es dauerte nicht lange bis das Kölner Quartett TV CULT auf die Bühne kam und bereits mit dem ersten Song “Party´s Over” eben genau das Gegenteil davon in Gang setzte. Das Publikum wirkte am Anfang noch etwas scheu, doch nach einigen Takten sahen wir schon begeisterte Gesichter. Der einzigartige Sound kam bei den Gästen gut an. Knackiger Bass der ordentlich Druck machte, gepaart mit kräftigen Drums und schwirrenden, kühlen Riffs. Oben drauf kommt Sänger Marcos Stimmte, die sich in bester Hardcore Manier durch die Songs zieht. Post-Hardcore oder Hardcore Post-Punk, wie man möchte, jedoch ist man sich schnell einig, das der Sound ordentlich abgeht und mal wirklich anders ist als der dunkle Einheitsbrei. Jede Menge Punk und die fehlenden Synths störten nun wirklich niemanden, ganz im Gegenteil, dadurch wurde der Sound noch “roher” und eingängiger.

Mit dem zweiten Song “White Riot” ist das Publikum nun endlich aufgetaut und weicht auch nicht mehr schüchtern zurück wenn Sänger Marco sich zwischen den Gästen tummelt. Dieser scheint sich seiner Präsenz und Stimme bewusst und legt sich das ganze Set ebenso ins Zeug wie seine Bandmitglieder. Mit zehn Songs zeigt das Quartett eindrucksvoll wie man verschiedene Stile – und da gibt es jede Menge – auf wunderbare Weise vermischen kann und mit dem neu entstandenen Sound auch bei Gästen punktet. Ein wenig kurz wirkte es, aber das ist vollkommen normal wenn zu keiner Sekunde Langeweile aufkommt. Wir werden die Band auf jeden Fall im Auge behalten und sind schon gespannt auf die neuen Veröffentlichungen der Kölner Band. Stichwort Colony, das Debütalbum der Kölner, das vermutlich am 24.11.2023 erhältlich sein soll und in Vinyl sogar in schickem Grün leuchtet. Bis dahin hoffen wir auf ein erneutes Wiedersehen mit der Band auf der Bühne. Es hat uns sehr gefallen.
