Jackson VanHorn will surely be known to most people, be it from his former bands TV Ghost or his own project, with which he has been on the road for several years now. In addition, the list of collaborations with other bands is unusually long, so it’s no wonder that “After the Rehearsal” has become an exceptionally good album that is characterized by the American’s skills.

With ten tracks, the album is lavishly done, thanks to VanHorn who took over several parts, the singing as well as the songwriting. The album is therefore not a whirlwind like most albums today, true to the motto the wilder the better, but rather a filigree, interlaced experience that binds the listener, gives him tasks and thus at no time loses its fascination and appeal. Sure, the darkness prevails as it is usual in the genre, also melancholy does not come too briefly, but by the sound it radiates rather brightly from the music landscape. Powerful passages, which unfold their full effect through their restrained, but really skilful appearance. The rythms that nestle firmly in the listener, making him dream or even look up in surprise, because the album never stinches with variety. A musical story that never gets boring, exactly what we wish for a cosy evening. Sophisticated and impulsive.

Jackson VanHorn wird den meisten sicherlich bekannt sein, sei es von seiner früheren Bands TV Ghost oder dem eigenen Projekt, mit dem er nun schon seit einigen Jahren unterwegs ist. Zudem ist die Liste der Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Bands ungewöhnlich lang und so ist es kein Wunder das “After the Rehearsal” ein außergewöhnlich gutes Album geworden ist, das durch das Können des Amerikaners geprägt ist.

Das mit zehn Tracks üppig ausgefallene Album verdankt die Klasse vor allem das VanHorn gleich mehrere Parts übernommen hat, das Singen ebenso wie das Songwriting. Das Album ist dadurch kein Wirbelwind wie die meisten Alben heutzutage, getreu dem Motto umso wilder umso besser, sondern eher ein filigranes, verschachteltes Erlebnis das den Hörer bindet, ihm Aufgaben stellt und somit zu keiner Zeit die Faszination und den Reiz verliert. Klar, die Dunkelheit überwiegt wie es im Genre nun einmal üblich ist, auch Melancholie kommt nicht zu kurz, aber durch den Sound strahlt es ziemlich hell aus der Musiklandschaft heraus. Kraftvolle Passagen, die ihre ganze Wirkung durch ihr doch verhaltenes, aber wirklich gekonntes Auftreten entfalten. Die Rythmen die sich fest in dem Hörer einnisten, ihn träumen lassen oder eben auch mal überrascht aufschauen, denn mit Abwechslung geizt das Album zu keiner Zeit. Eine musikalische Geschichte die niemals langweilig wird, genau das was wir uns für einen gemütlichen Abend wünschen. Anspruchsvoll und impulsiv.

Ein Album das erkundet und genossen werden will /muss. Kaufempfehlung!
