Fans of good post-punk no longer need to be introduced to Shanx FM aka David Betancourt from Wenatchee, which is located almost exactly in the middle of Washington State. Not only with “Sweet Quarantine” the musician had played himself firmly into the hearts of the fans. Now he presents his next song with his solo project away from DATURA and Yesterday once again shows the outstanding talent of David.

The sound, in general but also again in the presented song, convinces especially with its warmth which is cleverly packed in plenty of darkness. A two pinches of melancholy and ready is the recipe. Okay, many musicians use exactly these factors, but David is a bit further and makes the song seem alive. The listener can, not only from the theme of the song, quickly find themselves emotionally and drift with the song through their own memories. Peppered with 80s feeling one finds oneself very quickly transported back to the time of one’s own youth and enjoys the gripping basslines and chords of the guitar as you know them from that time. Combined with David’s voice a true time travel event.

If you look at the video to the song, you can still perfect the time travel. Neon colors alternate with good old VHS flashbacks and is contrasted by crisp sharp elements of the present. Who says cool videos are no longer possible? Here’s the proof.

A total package that leaves nothing to be desired. But, one wish we would have, we want more songs!

Fans von gutem Post-Punk braucht man Shanx FM alias David Betancourt aus Wenatchee, welches quasi genau in der Mitte des Bundesstaates Washington liegt, nicht mehr vorzustellen. Nicht nur mit “Sweet Quarantine” hatte der Musiker sich fest in die Herzen der Fans gespielt. Nun legt er mit seinem Solo-Projekt abseits von DATURA seinen nächsten Song vor und Yesterday zeigt wieder einmal das überragende Talent von David.

Der Sound, generell aber auch wieder im vorgestellten Song, überzeugt vor allem mit seiner Wärme die geschickt in reichlich Dunkelheit verpackt wird. Ein zwei Prisen Melancholie und fertig ist die Rezeptur. Okay, viele Musiker bedienen sich genau diesen Faktoren, aber David ist ein Stück weiter und lässt den Song lebendig wirken. Der Hörer kann, nicht nur von der Thematik des Songs her, sich schnell emotional wiederfinden und driftet mit dem Song durch eigene Erinnerungen. Gespickt mit 80s Feeling findet man sich ganz schnell wieder in die Zeit der eigenen Jugend versetzt und genießt die packenden Basslines und Akkorde der Gitarre wie man sie aus dieser Zeit kennt. Kombiniert mit Davids Stimme ein wahres Zeitreise-Event.

Schaut man sich dazu noch das Video zum Song an, kann man die Zeitreise noch perfektionieren. Neon-Farben wechseln sich mit guten alten VHS-Rückblicken ab und wird von knackig scharfen Elementen der Gegenwart kontrastiert. Wer sagt, das keine coolen Videos mehr möglich sind? Hier ist der Beweis.

Ein Gesamtpaket das keine Wünsche offen lässt. Doch, einen hätten wir, wir wollen mehr!
