With Stridulum we are joining a quite young band from Poland, but already now they are leaving us speechless with their incredible repertoire and talent. The duo, consisting of Marita Volodina (vocals) and Arkadiy Berg (instruments) shows with their new EP “Burial” how dark, modern music can and should sound.

In only five songs, the young duo declassifies the music scene that often follows in the same direction in the roughest way. They do not hang around standards, no they create standards. Despite a certain minimalism, the melodies are so to the point that they achieve their full effect. A sound that is powerful but never crosses borders, that shows dynamics and facets that want to be experienced and enjoyed. Darkness that nestles up to the listener and whispers into his ear, but can also be powerful in the next moment. If you take a look at the tracklist, you will of course notice the Alpha and Omega and basically this is the perfect explanation for the sound of the duo, opposites that couldn’t be more different and yet still need each other.

The musical component is perceived by Arkadiy and shows an incredible talent of dark electronic music, which is already in itself lot of fun to listen to, because it is so fascinating and always reveals little gizmos. In combination with the voice of Volodina the music takes the leap to perfection. With her warm and seductive singing she transports a wealth of emotions that some people have certainly never experienced in their lives. Like a siren, she captivates and never lets go of the listener, which is something they don’t really want to do.

Words are almost superfluous here, because you just have to experience this EP, again and again. Words to describe do not help much. Let me tell you so much, a superior, dark EP that is one of the best releases of 2020.

Mit Stridulum kommen wir zu einer recht jungen Band aus Polen, die aber schon jetzt mit ihrem unglaublichen Repertoire und Talent sprachlos macht. Das Duo, bestehend aus Marita Volodina (Vocals) und Arkadiy Berg (Instruments) zeigt mit ihrer neuen EP “Burial” wie dunkle, moderne Musik klingen kann und sollte.

In nur fünf Songs deklassiert das junge Duo fast schon die Teils immer gleichen Richtungen folgende Musikszene aufs gröbste. Sie hangeln sich nicht an Standards herum, nein sie erschaffen Standards. Die Melodien sind trotz eines gewissen Minimalismus so auf den Punkt gebracht, das sie ihre volle Wirkung erzielen. Ein Sound der kraftvoll ist aber niemals über die Grenzen geht, der Dynamiken und Facetten aufweist die erlebt werden wollen und genossen. Dunkelheit die sich an den Hörer schmiegt und imn ins Ohr flüstert, jedoch im nächsten Moment auch kraftvoll zupacken kann. Wer sich die Tracklist anschaut, dem wird natürlich das Alpha und Omega auffallen und im Grunde ist genau dies die perfekte Erklärung für den Sound des Duos, Gegensätze die unterschiedlicher nicht sein können und trotzdem einander brauchen.

Die musikalische Komponente wird von Arkadiy wahrgenommen und zeigt ein unglaubliches Talent der dunklen elektronischen Musik auf, die schon allein zu hören unglaublich viel Spaß macht weil sie so fasziniert und immer wieder kleine Neuigkeiten offenbart. In Kombination mit der Stimme von Volodina vollzieht die Musik dann doch den Sprung zur Perfektion. Sie transportiert mit ihrem warmen und verführerischen Gesang eine Fülle an Emotionen, die manche Menschen in ihrem Leben bestimmt noch nie erlebt haben. Einer Sirene gleich fesselt sie und lässt den Hörer nie wieder los, was man im Grunde auch nicht möchte.

Worte sind hier im Grunde auch schon fast überflüssig, denn diese EP muss man einfach (mehrfach) erlebt haben. Worte zum beschreiben helfen da nicht viel. Lasst euch soviel sagen, eine überragende, dunkle EP die mit zu den besten Veröffentlichungen 2020 zählt.
