A new, long-awaited release these days is Life Got Claws by Swedish band The Secret French Postcards. Formed back in 2016 and now signed to the Cold Transmission label, the band’s distinctive sound has earned them a firm place in the hearts of fans, but critics as well. Gritty post-punk with strong 80s vibes, thematically paired with everyone’s problems, is what makes them so special.

To begin with, the album doesn’t make it easy to find its own structure. With many albums, you start to remember your favorite songs and you tend to go back to a song again quickly. Life Got Claws denies the listener that from the beginning, because it is more than difficult to decide on a personal favorite of the ten songs. The album presents a quality that some bands do not even manage with a “Best Of – Album”. You want to listen to it again and again, from the beginning to the end.

Already with the first song the Swedes pull the listener into their dark, dreamy world of guitars, the catchy bass and the vocals that fit to the point. Like a calm, dark but wonderful dream, you float from one song to the next. Calm here, however, should not be confused with boring or lack of variety, because the album has so many nuances and details that even a fourth or even tenth listening to the album still reveals new aspects. Deeper and deeper you dive into the songs and at some point you become a part of the album yourself, because the songs creep through your head after the first listen and whenever silence returns or you close your eyes the Songs are back in your mind. Ein neues, lang erwartetes Release dieser Tage ist Life Got Claws von der schwedischen Band The Secret French Postcards. Bereits im Jahre 2016 gegründet und mittlerweile beim Cold Transmission Label untergekommen, hat sich die Band mit ihrem unverwechselbaren Sound nicht nur bei den Fans, sondern auch den Kritikern einen festen Platz in den Herzen erspielt. Düsterer Post-Punk mit starken 80s Vibes, thematisch gepaart mit den Problemen eines jeden Menschen, macht sie so besonders.

Vorab, das Album macht es einem nicht leicht seine eigene Struktur zu finden. Bei vielen Alben fängt man an sich die Lieblingslieder zu merken und man neigt gerne dazu nochmal schnell zu einem Song zurückzukehren. Lift Got Claws versagt dem Hörer das von Anfang an, denn sich auf einen persönlichen Favoriten der zehn Songs festzulegen ist mehr als schwer. Das Album legt eine Qualität vor, die manche Bands nicht mal mit einem “Best Of – Album” schaffen. Man will es immer wieder hören, vom Anfang bis zum Ende.

Bereits mit dem ersten Song ziehen die Schweden den Hörer in ihre dunkle, träumerische Welt aus Gitarren, dem eingängigen Bass und den auf den Punkt passenden Vocals. Wie ein dunkler, aber wundervoller Traum schwebt man von einem zum nächsten Song. Ruhig sollte man hier aber nicht mit langweilig oder fehlender Abwechslung verwechseln, denn das Album hat so viele Nuancen und Details, das auch ein viertes oder gar zehntes Hören des Albums noch neue Aspekte offenbart. Immer tiefer taucht man in die Songs ein und wird irgendwann selber ein Teil des Albums, denn die Songs schleichen nach dem ersten Hören durch den Kopf und wenn immer Ruhe einkehrt oder man die Augen schließt kehren sie zurück. Schnell ist man wieder in dieser wundervollen Traumwelt aus Musik und weiß gar nicht was man vorher ohne dieses Album gemacht hat.
