New EP // Doom Doom Trash

The British duo Dead Lights is back with a new EP and while other come around with explosive hits, Saul and Richard´s new EP has enough musical explosive power to level whole landscapes. Doom Doom Trash is pure, uncontrollable energy. Pre-order has already started and on March 11th you can call the full EP your own. We had the chance to listen to all the songs and are mercilessly in love.

The end of the nineties until the end of the first decade in the new millennium was the great time of dark electronic music. Countless acts sprouted from the ground and delivered great songs. Non-electro became a almost forgotten dark genre and only came back to the fore in the last decade with the big post-punk revival. Electro seemed to be worn out, one had partly heard enough of the recurring melodies and always the same structures. But in recent times the field of dark electronic music seems to gain some momentum again. One of the most formative and absolutely most striking bands participating in the renewal are Dead Lights from London. As a band still quite young, but blessed by the producer activity and band experience of Saul and Richard with a lot of knowledge, the two are able to unleash one hit after another on the fans. As an example we add the self-titled debut album, which really hit like a bomb in the music world and brought the band fans from all over the world.

With the new EP and the five songs contained on it, the two musicians continue their incomparable style. A rough dance mix that almost pushes the listener to the wall with its sheer untamed energy with pounding beats, the powerful synths and the pushing vocals. At the same time the “Dirty Sexy” factor skillfully used and presents itself as a pop song with industrial elements. Perfectly timed breaks, quick changes and minimal pauses to quickly catch your breath complete the picture. Despite all the power, you feel the depth and complexity of the songs at every second. The two musicians themselves like to call it Death Pop and we like to join them. Omnipresent and almost violent sound comes out of the speakers and while reason tells us not to turn up the music even louder for the good of the music system, our heart wants the maximum power. At the same time we are overcome by the desire for stroboscope fire and fast light spots. Five songs that will not only put the equipment to a hard test, but also the fans. Better said, their endurance. A hard-hitting, fast-paced dance marathon – even when Vile and Follow Me are a little bit slower- that will provide plenty of sweat and dehydration, even without a Corona club break. An EP that has been perfected to let off steam with other people on the dance floors of this world. Let’s hope that we can soon enjoy sore muscles and heavy legs the next morning again.

In addition to the outstanding songs, the two musicians bring another important component into play. Videos! Already with their androgynous outfits, the two cause quite a stir and multiply the effect again with the wonderfully arranged videos. Dark, mystical and with a lot of love for the costumes and details, the images nestle excellently with the sound. A perfectly coordinated process that make the whole package an experience that sticks deeply in the memory. As we heard, a lot of the video shooting is also done by Saul and Richard themselves. Das britische Duo Dead Lights ist zurück mit einer neuen EP und während man bei anderen Bands gerne von explosiven Hits schreibt, so liefern Saul und Richard mit der neuen EP genügend musikalische Sprengkraft um ganze Landstriche einzuebnen.Doom Doom Trash ist pure, unkontrollierbare Energie. Pre-Order ist bereits angelaufen und am 11. März dürft ihr die vollständige EP dann euer eigen nennen. Wir hatten die Chance alle Songs zu hören und sind gnadenlos verliebt.

Ende der Neunziger bis Ende des ersten Jahrzehnts im neuen Jahrtausend war die große elektronische Zeit der dunklen Musik. Unzählige Acts sprossen aus dem Boden und lieferten starke Songs ab. Non-Electro wurde zur dunklen Sparte und kam erst im letzen Jahrzehnt durch das große Post-Punk Revival wieder zur Geltung. Electro schien abgenutzt, man hatte sich zum Teil an den wiederkehrenden Melodien und immer gleichen Strukturen satt gehört. Doch in der letzten Zeit scheint der Bereich der dunklen elektronischen Musik wieder einiges an Auftrieb zu erlangen. Eine der prägendsten und absolut markantesten Bands die an der Erneuerung mitwirken sind Dead Lights aus London. Als Band noch recht jung, dafür aber durch die Produzenten-Tätigkeit und Banderfahrung von Saul und Richard mit viel Wissen gesegnet, vermögen es die Beiden einen Hit nach dem anderen auf die Fans loszulassen. Als Beispiel fügen wir das selbstbetitelte Debüt Album an, das regelrecht wie eine Bombe in der Musikwelt einschlug und der Band Fans in aller Welt einbrachte.

Mit der neuen EP und den darauf enthaltenden fünf Songs, führen die beiden Musiker ihren unvergleichlichen Stil weiter fort. Ein ruppiger Dance-Mix, der mit seinen schier ungebändigten Energie mit stampfenden Beats, den druckvollen Synths und den pushenden Vocals den Hörer schon fast an die Wand drückt. Zeitgleich den “Dirty Sexy” Factor gekonnt einsetzt und sich als Pop-Song mit Industrial Elementen präsentiert. Perfekt getimte Breaks, schnelle Wechsel und minimale Pausen die um schnell Luft zu holen runden das Bild ab. Trotz aller Power, fühlt man die Tiefe und Vielschichtigkeit der Songs zu jeder Sekunde. Die beiden Musiker nennen es selbst gerne Death Pop und wir schließen uns da gerne an. Omnipräsent und schon fast gewalttätig dringt der Sound aus den Lautsprechern und während uns die Vernunft sagt, das wir die Musik zum Wohlergehen der Musikanlage nicht noch lauter drehen sollen, will unser Herz das Maximum der Leistung. Zeitgleich überkommt einen das Verlangen nach Stroboskop-Feuer und schnellen Lichtspots. Fünf Songs die nicht nur das Equipment auf eine harte Probe stellen werden, sondern auch die Fans. Besser gesagt, deren Ausdauer. Ein knallharter, schneller Tanzmarathon – auch wenn Vile und Follow Me etwas langsamer daher kommen -, der auch ohne Corona-Club-Pause, für ordentlich Schweiß und Dehydration sorgt. Eine EP, die dafür perfektioniert wurde um sich mit anderen Menschen auf den Tanzflächen dieser Welt auszupowern. Hoffen wir, das wir Muskelkater und schwere Beine am nächsten Morgen, bald wieder genießen können.

Zusätzlich zu den überragenden Songs, bringen die beiden Musiker noch eine weitere wichtige Komponente mit ins Spiel. Videos! Bereits mit ihren androgynen Outfits sorgen die Beiden für einiges Aufsehen und multiplizieren den Effekt nochmals mit den wunderbar arrangierten Videos. Dunkel, mystisch und mit viel Liebe zu den Kostümen und Details, schmiegen sich die Bilder hervorragend an den Sound. Ein perfekt abgestimmter Prozess, der das Gesamtpaket zu einen Erlebnis machen, das tief im Gedächtnis hängen bleibt.
