New EP // New Spring - Sectarian Bloom

Last January, purely by chance, we came across a band from Los Angeles that blew us away with their punky, dark and heavy sound. The trio is called Sectarian Bloom and their eponymous EP is one of, if not the most played records in our arsenal. Even our neighbors should know the lyrics of “Behind The Sun” by heart by now, as they were allowed to listen to it loudly quite often.
At the beginning of August, the three musicians, Will, Sam and Susie, now presented their next EP called New Spring and continue seamlessly from the predecessor. Susie slams her beats on the drums as well as Will with the basslines and Sam with his razor-sharp riffs. The vocals push and sweep you like a summer storm in the face. 6 hard-hitting songs overflowing with energy. Dark punk like it has to be and unfortunately you don’t hear it often. No wild hammering or that one stumbles from loud speed, the three musicians keep the perfect balance. A little more detail can be found in the songs and overall you get the feeling that the band has moved closer together despite Pandemic and they complement each other musically better and understand each other.
We were a little bit afraid that the band could remain a flash in the pan, because if you look a little bit more into the band, you know that Sectarian Bloom is not the only band in which the three musicians play, but with New Spring they are back and as it looks, also welcome guests on the stages in the USA. Oakland, San Diego, Long Beach, Los Angeles just to name a few places and last on stage in Pittsburgh. So it’s no wonder that their popularity is on the rise.

Im Januar letzten Jahres stießen wir rein zufällig auf eine Band aus Los Angeles, die uns mit ihrem punkig, dunklen und harten Sound umgehauen haben. Das Trio heißt Sectarian Bloom und ihre gleichnamige EP ist eine der, wenn nicht sogar die meistgespielte Platten in unserem Arsenal. Selbst unsere Nachbarn sollten mittlerweile die Lyrics von “Behind The Sun” auswendig können, durften sie doch unfreiwillig des Öfteren lautstark mithören.
Anfang August legten die drei Musiker, Will, Sam und Susie, nun ihre nächste EP mit Namen New Spring vor und knüpfen nahtlos an den Vorgänger an. Susie knallt dem Hörer ihre Beats an den Drums ebenso um die Ohren wie Will mit den Basslines und Sam mit seinen Messerscharfen Riffs. Die Vocals pushen und fegen einem wie ein Sommersturm ins Gesicht. 6 knallharte Songs die vor Energie überlaufen. Dunkler Punk wie er sein muss und man ihn leider nicht oft hört. Kein wildes Geschrammel oder das man vor lauter Geschwindigkeit ins Straucheln gerät, die drei Musiker halten die perfekte Balance. Ein wenig mehr Details findet man in den Songs und insgesamt bekommt man das Gefühl, das die Band trotz Pandemie enger zusammen gerückt ist und man sich musikalisch besser ergänzt und versteht.
Ein wenig Befürchtung, das die Band eine Eintagsfliege bleiben könnte, hatten wir schon, denn wenn man sich ein wenig mehr mit der Band beschäftigt, weiß man, das Sectarian Bloom nicht die einzige Band ist, in der die drei Musiker spielen, doch mit New Spring sind sie zurück und wie es ausschaut, auch gern gesehene Gäste auf den Bühnen in den USA. Oakland, San Diego, Long Beach, Los Angeles um nur ein paar Orte zu nennen und zuletzt in Pittsburgh auf der Bühne. Kein Wunder also, das der Bekanntheitsgrad steigt.
