New Song // Dying Light – Grey Gallows

That the two musicians Konstantin and Dionisis – known to most as the successful duo Grey Gallows – stand for excellent music is an undisputed fact in the dark music world. With their new song Dying Light, the duo surpasses themselves once again and raises the bar in the genre significantly. A nice prelude and advertisement for the new album “Strangers”, which will also be released in spring.

We always found the duo fascinating, with the deep dark voice and the coherent sounds they had us already quickly under their spell. After last year’s great concert at the Cold Transmission Festival in Cologne, they are now in our constant focus. No wonder that we had marked the video premiere in our calendars with an big red X and were eagerly waiting.
Dying Light hit us like a dark surf. The song is cool, really dark and mysterious. With all its might, it pulled us into the musical horizon and made the hair on our arms rise like a cold breeze. Yes, cool and dark, but with blazing energy that manifests itself in massive synth walls. Contrasting with the calm vocals, there is an emotional ebb and flow that beautifully complements the theme of the song. A song that you can not only hear, but feel and at the same time it´s even danceable.

What we generally like is that not only, but especially at CT, they dedicate themselves again more to make music videos. The previous releases on the label were made above average and also Dying Light has that special. The darkness, the being lost is skillfully implemented by the wide-angle shots while the main character in the video is brought into focus by discreet depth of field. A nice color key that runs through the video, focusing on mostly blue tones and setting the scene wonderfully with the many lights from advertisements, cars and lamps on wet surfaces. A few cool effects here and there and you have a brilliant video.

A complete package that will be remembered and should give the two musicians an enormous boost. A boost that they have well and truly earned! We are looking forward to the upcoming album!

Das die beiden Musiker Konstantin und Dionisis – den meisten als erfolgreiches Duo Grey Gallows bekannt – für hervorragende Musik stehen, ist in der dunklen Musikwelt unumstrittener Fakt. Mit ihrem neuen Song Dying Light übertrifft sich das Duo nochmals und legt die Messlatte im Genre deutlich höher. Ein schöner Auftakt und Werbung für das ebenfalls im Frühjahr erscheinende neue Album “Strangers”.

Wir fanden das Duo schon immer faszinierend, mit der tiefen dunklen Stimme und den stimmigen Sounds hatten sie uns schon schnell in ihren Bann gezogen. Nach dem großartigen Konzert im letzten Jahr auf dem Cold Transmission Festival in Köln sind sie mittlerweile im ständigen Fokus. Kein wunder also, das wir uns die Videopremiere rot im Kalender markiert hatten und gespannt warteten.
Uns traf Dying Light wie eine dunkle Brandung. Der Song ist kühl, richtig dunkel und geheimnisvoll. Mit aller Kraft zog er uns in den musikalischen Horizont und ließ wie ein kalter Windhauch die Haare auf den Armen aufsteigen. Ja, kühl und dunkel, aber mit lodernder Energie, die sich in gewaltigen Synth-Wänden manifestiert. Im Kontrast zu den ruhigen Vocals entsteht ein emotionales Auf und Ab, das die Thematik des Songs wunderbar ergänzt. Ein Song, den man nicht nur hört, sondern fühlen kann und zeitgleich sogar tanzbar ist.

Was uns generell gefällt, das man nicht nur, aber besonders bei CT, sich wieder mehr den Musikvideos widmet. Die vorherigen Releases beim Label waren überdurchschnittlich gut gemacht und auch Dying Light hat das Besondere. Die Dunkelheit, das Verloren sein wird durch die Totalen im Weitwinkel Format gekonnt umgesetzt während die Hauptdarstellerin im Video durch dezente Tiefenschärfe in den Fokus gerückt wird. Ein schöner Color-Key der sich durch das Video zieht, sich auf meist auf blaue Töne konzentriert und sich mit den vielen Lichtern von Reklamen, Autos und Lampen auf nassen Oberflächen wunderbar in Szene setzt. Hier und da ein paar coole Effekte und fertig ist ein geniales Video.

Ein Gesamtpaket, das sich ins Gedächtnis einprägt und den beiden Musikern enormen Aufschwung gegen sollte. Aufschwung, den sie sich redlich verdient haben! Wir freuen uns auf das kommende Album!
