On The Edge Of A Darker Place

Sometimes in life it takes very special coincidences, such as a soap opera from 1978 that provides the impetus to take a closer look at the dark music scene in Dallas. Of course, almost everyone knows the class leader Rosegarden Funeral Party, but the quartet Sevit with their very special sound is only a few steps behind.
The four musicians around singer Jackie Legos presented their debut “On The Edge Of A Darker Place” to the public as early as Halloween 2020 and received consistently positive reviews. The mixture of sounds from different genres (dark wave, postpunk etc.) quickly makes you think of the heroes of the dark scene, but without sounding like a mere copy. The warmth, the passion of the quartet for their music can be felt throughout the whole album and turns every single song into a wonderful experience, with the spirit of days gone by. So it’s no wonder that a label quickly came forward to take the four guys and their new album under their wing to release the album on vinyl this spring.

But there’s more, while many bands struggle a bit to offer variety, it’s Sevit’s great strength. Not one song is like the other, because the guys use the whole repertoire of the genre to set decisive accents and to surprise the listener in every second. You won’t find boredom here, so who is surprised that the 13 tracks are in heavy rotation in our playlists.

One thing should definitely be mentioned though, On The Edge Of A Darker Place is a debut and shows what potential this band has and we are sure that we haven’t heard the last time of this band. We will continue to keep an eye on Dallas and Sevit in the future and we are sure the hip DJs and clubs will too.

Manchmal braucht es im Leben die ganz speziellen Zufälle, wie z.B. eine Seifenoper aus dem Jahre 1978 die Anstoß dazu liefert sich die dunkle Musikszene von Dallas genauer unter die Lupe zu nehmen. Klar den Klassenprimus Rosegarden Funeral Party kennt fast jeder, allerdings steht das Quartett Sevit mit ihrem ganz speziellen Sound nur wenige Sekunden dahinter.
Bereits Halloween 2020 hatten die vier Musiker um Sänger Jackie Legos ihr Debüt mit dem Namen “On The Edge Of A Darker Place” der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert und durchgängig positive Kritiken gewinnen können. Die Mischung des Sounds aus verschiedenen Bereichen lässt ganz schnell an die Helden der dunklen Szene denken, jedoch ohne wie eine bloße Kopie zu klingen. Die Wärme, die Leidenschaft des Quartetts für ihre Musik ist durchgängig durchs ganze Album zu spüren und verwandelt jeden einzelnen Song in ein wunderbares Erlebnis, mit dem gefühlten Spirit vergangener Tage. Kein Wunder also, dass sich schnell ein Label meldete um die vier Jungs und Ihr neues Album Unter die Fittiche zu nehmen um das Album in diesem Frühjahr auf Vinyl auf den Markt zu bringen.

Aber es gibt noch mehr, denn während viele Bands sich ein wenig damit schwer tun Abwechslung zu bieten, ist es die große Stärke von Sevit. Nicht ein Song gleicht dem anderen, sondern die Jungs nutzen das gesamte Repertoire des Genre um entscheidende Akzente zu setzen und den Hörer in jeder Sekunde zu überraschen. Langeweile sucht man hier vergebens und wen wundert es also, das sich die 13 Tracks in Heavy Rotation befinden.

Eins sollte man jedoch definitiv noch erwähnen, On The Edge Of A Darker Place ist ein Debüt und zeigt was für ein Potential in dieser Band steckt und wir sind uns sicher das wir nicht das letzte Mal von dieser Band gehört haben. Dallas, Sevit gehören jetzt ganz weit oben auf unsere Liste und bestimmt bald auch auf die der angesagten Clubs und DJs.
