New Album // Unrated V – VAZUM

October is coming to an end, the colourful forests are sinking into thick fog and Halloween is within reach. Time for a new release from Vazum, Detroit’s deathgaze duo. An album that puts even the last one in a festive mood with its 12 tracks, is extraordinarily successful even without the Halloween effect and also provides a big surprise.

Synths? Really? We hesitated a little as we quickly zipped through the album. A quick look in the player, yes, this is the right album. Interesting. It’s getting exciting. Zach Pliska and Emily Sturm are known for experimenting, breaking new ground and revealing incredible creative abilities in all areas. So we were even more curious to see what the Detroit duo had conjured up.

The opener Jester shows a “softer” disposition than one is used to from Vazum, revealing plenty of complexity and increasing from second to second. Remains in the memory for a long time and finally explodes. Very brilliantly done by the two musicians and this is only the beginning. Of course we could analyse every song now, but then we would take away the fun of the discoveries. This much is said, there are industrial influences that will blow you away and passages of synths that will stay in your mind for hours and days, great songs without neglecting the Vazum spirit.

You could call Unrated V an electronic version of Rated V, but this is much more, it’s Vazum. A band that reinvents itself again and again since its foundation, outdoes itself and impressively shows that genre and sections are something for wimps. An absolute masterpiece!

Der Oktober neigt sich dem Ende zu, die farbenfrohen Wälder versinken in dichtem Nebel und Halloween ist zum greifen Nahe. Zeit für eine neue Veröffentlichung von Vazum, Detroits Deathgaze Duo. Ein Album das mit seinen 12 Tracks auch den letzten in Feierlaune versetzt, auch ohne den Halloween Effekt außerordentlich gelungen ist und ebenso für eine dicke Überraschung sorgt.

Synths? Wirklich? Ein wenig zögerten wir doch als wir schnell durchzappten durch das Album. Schnell noch mal in den Player geschaut, ja das ist das richtige Album. Interessant. Es wird spannend. Zach Pliska und Emily Sturm sind dafür bekannt zu experimentieren, neue Wege zu gehen und in allen Bereichen unglaubliche kreative Fähigkeiten zu offenbaren. Wir waren also noch neugieriger was das Duo aus Detroit gezaubert hat.

Der Opener Jester zeigt ein “sanfteres” Gemüt an den Tag als man es von Vazum gewohnt ist und offenbart dabei reichlich Komplexität und steigert sich von Sekunde zu Sekunde. Bleibt lange im Gedächtnis und explodiert schließlich. Sehr genial gemacht von den beiden Musikern und das ist erst der Anfang. Natürlich könnten wir jetzt jeden Song analysieren, würden euch dann aber auch den Spaß an den Entdeckungen nehmen. So viel sei gesagt, es kommen Industrial-Einflüsse die euch umhauen werden und Passagen von Synths die euch über Stunden und Tage im Gedächtnis bleiben ohne den Vazum Spirit zu vernachlässigen.

Man könnte Unrated V als elektronische Variante von Rated V bezeichnen, doch das hier ist viel mehr, es ist Vazum. Eine Band die sich seit der Gründung immer wieder neu erfindet, sich selbst übertrumpft und eindrucksvoll zeigt das Genre und Sparten etwas für Weicheier sind. Ein absolutes Meisterwerk.
