New Sampler // SPOTLIGHT VOL. 2 (A Cold Transmission label compilation)

After the last sampler called Chrome, the next sampler from the German label Cold Transmission is ready. Spotlight Vol.2 is called this and shows more than impressively how broad and strong the label is positioned. A masterpiece and at the same time a piece of music history of one of the most up-and-coming labels in the dark music landscape.

While Chrome presents itself cool and according to the name and can well be described as a concentrate of the CT spirit, the new sampler comes in classic black with a slight bluish touch and reveals the true greatness of the label. There are 38!!! in-house songs on the sampler. Quickly the eye falls on the CT logo and then on the person in the middle, who draws neon-colored circles around him, as in a long exposure. Colored almost like a rainbow, this fits perfectly with the selection of songs and represents another statement in terms of variety of the label. Although you could shrink the genres to post-punk, coldwave and electronics, but the songs and artists are quite different and are characterized primarily by uniqueness and high recognition value. Nothing sounds like mass production, overhasty productions or fast money, a criterion that is very important to the CT team since the foundation of the label. Class before mass and so it seems not surprising that the label is happy about almost 1 million listened songs. Mind you, this is only on the Bandcamp platform, not counting all the other social media channels. The right way, because the fan base is growing and growing.

If you take a closer look at the bands behind the 38 songs, you’ll quickly realize that in terms of variety, you can also take a look at the maps. Sundata from Mexico, Camlann from Indonesia, Noromakina from Colombia or Bedless Bones from Estonia are only the tip of the iceberg. A sound carrier, a label that musically spans the world and, especially in this day and age, makes the world smaller and brings people closer together. Be it with classic post-punk like The Gathering delivers or pure electronic like Cult Of Alia there is immediately a familiar feeling and shows another strength of the label.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Cold Transmission sampler if there wasn’t something exclusive in the form of previously unreleased tracks. We could give a thousand more good reasons to buy, highlighting the bands even further, but believe us, if they weren’t outstanding, we wouldn’t find them on the sampler. For us personally, the album is a reflection of the modern dark music landscape that not only appeals to old veterans of dark music, but is also suitable to show a newcomer how incredibly cool post-punk, coldwave and electronics can sound. Nach dem letzten Sampler mit Namen Chrome, steht der nächste Sampler vom deutschen Label Cold Transmission bereit. Spotlight Vol.2 heißt dieser und zeigt mehr als eindrucksvoll wie breit gefächert und stark das Label aufgestellt ist. Ein Meisterstück und zugleich ebenso ein Stück Musikgeschichte eines der aufstrebendsten Label in der dunklen Musiklandschaft.

Während Chrome sich kühl und dem Namen nach präsentiert und gut als ein Konzentrat des CT Spirits bezeichnet werden kann, so kommt der neue Sampler in klassischem Schwarz mit leichter bläulicher Note daher und offenbart die wahre Größe des Labels. Es sind 38!!! hauseigene Songs auf dem Sampler. Schnell fällt der Blick auf das CT Logo und dann auf die Person in der Mitte, die, wie bei einer Langzeitbelichtung, neonfarbene Kreise um sich zieht. Farblich fast wie ein Regenbogen gehalten, passt dies perfekt zur Auswahl der Songs und stellt ein weiteres Statement in Hinsicht Abwechslungs des Labels dar. Zwar könnte man die Genres auf Post-Punk, Coldwave und Electronics schrumpfen, doch unterscheiden sich die Songs und Künstler doch ganz erheblich und zeichnen sich vor allem durch Einzigartigkeit und hohem Wiedererkennungswert aus. Nichts klingt nach Massenproduktion, überschnellen Produktionen oder schnellem Geld, ein Kriterium das dem CT-Team seit Gründung des Labels überaus am Herzen liegt. Klasse vor Masse und so erscheint es nicht verwunderlich, das man sich beim Label gerade über knapp 1 Million angehörte Songs freut. Wohlgemerkt nur auf der Bandcamp-Plattform, die ganzen anderen Social-Media Kanäle gar nicht mit eingerechnet. Der richtige Weg, denn die Fangemeinde wächst und wächst.

Wer sich die Bands hinter den 38 Songs etwas genauer anschaut, der wird sehr schnell feststellen, das man in Hinsicht Abwechslung auch gerne einen Blick auf die Landkarten werfen kann. Sundata aus Mexiko, Camlann aus Indonesien, Noromakina aus Kolumbien oder Bedless Bones aus Estland bilden nur die Spitze des Eisberges. Ein Tonträger, ein Label der musikalisch die Welt umspannt und gerade in der heutigen Zeit die Welt kleiner werden lässt und Menschen zusammenrücken. Sei es mit klassischem Post-Punk wie ihn zum Beispiel The Gathering liefert oder purer Electronic wie Cult Of Alia es kommt sofort ein familiäres Gefühl auf und zeigt eine weitere Stärke des Labels.

Natürlich wäre es kein Cold Transmission Sampler, wenn es nicht etwas exklusives in Form von vorher nicht veröffentlichten Tracks gäbe. Wir könnten noch weitere tausend gute Gründe für einen Kauf nennen, die Bands noch weiter hervorheben, aber glaubt uns, wenn sie nicht überragend wären, würden wir sie auf dem Sampler nicht finden. Für uns persönlich ist das Album ein Spiegelbild der modernen dunklen Musiklandschaft, das nicht nur alte Veteranen der dunklen Musik anspricht, sondern sich ebenso dazu eignet einem Newcomer zu zeigen wie unglaublich geil Post-Punk, Coldwave und Electronics klingen können. Wir schrieben es ja schon, ein Meisterstück, ein Stück Musikgeschichte. Danke Andreas und Suzy!
